EDWARD McDERMOTT

EDWARD McDERMOTT, for more than twelve years a leading architect
and builder of North Hudson County, was born July 31, 1866, in West Hoboken, N. J., where he has always resided. He is the son of John McDermott and Elizabeth McClure. He received his education in the West
Hoboken public schools, and after completing his studies turned his attention to architecture, for which he had decided taste. Having gained a practical as well as a theoretical knowledge of the profession, he opened an office
for the active practice of architecture in West Hoboken, in 1886, and
through his ability and skill has gained an extensive business. He has designed and erected many of the finer structures, including numerous dwellings, in the northern part of Hudson County. His work shows great originality, broad professional knowledge, and marked artistic taste, as well as a
thorough comprehension of structural problems. His success is the result
of his own efforts.
Mr. McDermott has also been active and influential in public affairs, filling several positions with the same ability and satisfaction which have characterized his professional career. Elected a member in 1890 and Treasurer in 1891 of the Board of Fire Trustees of West Hoboken, and Tax Assessor of the town in 1892, he still holds the latter office, discharging his duties with ability, faithfulness. and honor. He is a member of Cosmopolitan Lodge, No. 351, I. O. O. F.
