JOHN DIPPEL, JR.
, is one of the prominent, influential, and highly respected
citizens of West New York, Hudson County, N. J. He held the office
of Tax Collector for two terms, or a period of four years, and also
served one term as a member of the Board of Education of West New York.
He is an active member of the Republican party, a member of the Republican
Association of West New York, a member of Palisade Lodge, No. 84,
Free and Accepted Masons, and a member of the Ancient Order of Free
Smiths and of the Foresters of America. He was born in New York City, October 7, 1855, and is the son of John Dippel and Wilhelmina Unkenholz. a grandson of John Dippel and Anna Bock, and a great-grandson of John Peter Dippel, who was a soldier during the Revolution and subsequently returned to Europe. Mr. Dippel's father was a soldier during the Civil War, from 1861 to 1865, being a member of Company G, Fourth New Jersey Volunteers. Mr. Dippel was educated in the public schools of New York City and North Bergen, Hudson County, N. J. Between the ages of eighteen and twenty-one he served a three years' apprenticeship in New York City as a mason and plasterer. During the next ten years he worked as a mechanic in New York City. In 1883 he embarked as a boss mason, and has continued in business for himself to the present time. His work as a contractor has been quite extensive. At the present time he is building twenty-four houses at Highwood Park. Mr. Dippel enjoys the confidence of his fellow-citizens in a marked degree. He married Eva Amanda Weyer, who was born in New York City in 1855.
