THOMAS A. DUFFY, the well known contractor and builder of East
Newark, Hudson County, is the son of James Duffy and Mary Smith, natives
respectively of Ireland and England, who came to the United States
in 1865. He was born in Fall River, Mass., where his mother was visiting,
on the 26th of February, 1872, and there received his education in the public schools.
After leaving school Mr. Duty engaged in business as a contractor and builder, which he has since followed with increasing success, his home and headquarters being in East Newark. Many of the finest and most imposing buildings in that section of Hudson County are the result of his industry and enterprise. His work shows artistic taste and skill as well as a thorough knowledge of structural problems, and stands as monuments to his integrity, ability, and faithfulness. Though a young man, he has achieved prominence in his line, and is esteemed and respected as a man of courage, honesty, and energy. He has also taken an active interest in public affairs, serving as a member of the Board of Aldermen and of the Board of Chosen Freeholders and as Assistant Chief of the Fire Department. He is an ardent Democrat in politics and a prominent member of various bowling clubs. The popularity and confidence in which he is held by the community are attested by the many important duties which he has so faithfully and satisfactorily discharged.
