LOUIS C. NEUSCHELER, Collector of Taxes of the Town of Union,
Hudson County, N. J., has been a life-long resident of that place, having
been born there on the 28th of September, 1867. He is the son of George
and Eliza (Wicks) Neuscheler. His father, Captain George Neuscheler,
Jr., was for some time Town Clerk of the Town of Union, First Lieutenant
in the Fifteenth Regiment, United States Heavy Artillery, and Captain of
Company B. Ninth Regiment, New Jersey National Guard, which regiment
he organized. He died in 1873, after an active and useful life, respected by
all who knew him. Louis C. Neascheler's birthplace and early home was on Palisade Avenue in the Town of Union. He received his education in the public schools of the neighborhood, and then became a bookkeeper, a profession he has since followed. His interest in politics and public affairs was manifest even during his youth, and has continued to be one of his chief characteristics. He became a Notary Public and subsequently Collector of Arrears, and is now (1900) the efficient Collector of Taxes of the Town of Union. In these capacities he has displayed marked ability, sound judgment, and great sagacity qualities which invariably lead to higher honors. Public spirited, progressive, and thoroughly identified with the best interests of his native town, he enjoys the confidence and esteem of the entire community, and as a member of the John J. Egan Association he is prominent and active in politics. He is a member of the Republican Association of the Town of Union, of the Mutual Benefit Association, of the Hamilton Wheelmen, and of the New Jersey Building, Loan and Investment Company. He is unmarried.
