GEORGE CUNLIFFE

GEORGE CUNLIFFE, of Kearny, son of Joseph Cunliffe and Hannah
Ainseow, was born in Lancashire, England, the birthplace of his parents,
on the 20th of March, 1847, He comes from an old and distinguished line
of English ancestors. Receiving a good public school education in his native
town, he learned the trade of spinner, which he followed until 1880,
when he came to the United States. Here he entered the Clark 0. N. T.
Thread Mills, in Newark, N. J., and remained there several years, holding
responsible positions, and gaining the respect and confidence of both asso-
ciates and employers. Subsequently Mr. Cunliffe originated what is known as botanic beer, which he manufactures in large quantities, and in which he has built up an extensive trade, his factory and residence being in Kearny, N. J. In this business he has achieved success. He is a public spirited, progressive citizen, a Republican in politics, and a member of the Sons of St. George and of the Methodist Episcopal Church. Mr. Cunliffe harried Miss Ellen Pilkington, and has seven children: William Thomas, Joseph, Mary Hannah, Robert, Sarah Helen, Stephen, and Florence.
