FREDERICK A. SCHWARTZ

FREDERICK A. SCHWARTZ is one of the prominent, enterprising, public
spirited, and respected citizens of West Hoboken, Hudson County, and
has been honored by his fellow-citizens by election to many offices of local
responsibility and trust. He has taken a lively interest in the subject of
education and the public school system, and has held the office of School
Trustee, faithfully discharging the duties connected with this position. He
has also served as Assessment Commissioner, and won the public confidence
by his integrity, fairness, and sound judgment. He has been elected to
the Council of West Hoboken, and while a member of this body exhibited
concern and care for the welfare of the community. The confidence which
his service in these various capacities inspired is evidenced by the fact of
his election as Town Treasurer of West Hoboken. Mr. Schwartz is a native of West Hoboken, N. J., where he was born in June, 1853. He is the son of Frederick Schwartz, whose wife was a daughter of Henry Courvoisier. His grandfather was Frederick Schwartz, Sr. His paternal grandparents were natives of Germany, his father being born in New York City. His ancestors on the maternal side were Swiss, and his mother was born in Switzerland. Mr. Schwartz attended the public schools and completed his education at Hoboken Academy. He then became errand boy for a business firm, and he has remained with this same firm during the thirty years since, and is now the manager, in charge of the office and the general business. Mr. Schwartz married, in 1876, Anita la Stayo. He has been a member of the Volunteer Fire Department of West Hoboken for more than twenty years, and is a member of Neptune Engine Company. He is also a member of the Royal Arcanum and has been First Regent of the West Hoboken Council in that order. He has always taken an active interest in everything connected with the welfare or improvement of West Hoboken.
