His popularity is attested by the confidence and esteem in which he has long been held by the community, and especially by his wide circle of friends and acquaintances As a Democrat he took an active part in politics, and in the spring of 1896 was elected Town Clerk of the Town of West Hoboken, which office he still holds, being re-elected in April, 1899, for a second term of three years. By virtue of this position he is and has been also clerk of the Board of Town Council.
