MILTON G. DEMAREST is of the ninth generation from
David des
Marest, the French emigrant.
His line is the sane as that of his cousin, Daniel I. Demarest
as far as the seventh generation.
Daniel Peter Demarest (7) had five children of the eighth generation, all born at Oradell: Daniel P., Lea, Isaac D., Peter D., David D., and Garret D. Garret D. Demarest (S) was born at Oradell, N. J., August 23, 1821, and died April 23, 1877. He married, May 19, 1853, Maria, daughter of John D. Demarest, and had issue Lea, Daniel, Margaretta, John, Katie, and Milton G., the last named being the subject of this sketch. Milton G. Demarest (9) was born at Oradell on the 25th of July, 1871, and received his education in the public schools of Bergen County and at Rutgers College, New Brunswick. Owing to poor health he left school at the age of sixteen and went to California, where he remained two years. Upon his return he entered the employ of Cooper & Demarest, general contractors and dealers in builders' supplies, and has since continued there. As a resident of Oradell, Bergen County, Mr. Demarest has taken an active part in public affairs. He has served as Clerk of the Borough of Delford, as Secretary and Treasurer of the Delford Land Company and the Delford Sewerage Company, and as Superintendent of the Peetzburg Sunday School. For a number of years lie was Superintendent of the Union Sunday School. He is a member of the Dutch Reformed Church, a public spirited citizen, and honored and respected by all who know him. He is unmarried.
