JOHN C. BOUTON

JOHN C. BOUTON, of Bayonne, N. J., was born in Rye, Westchester
County, N. Y., on the 18th of February, 1852, being the son of Samuel Bouton
and Catharine Clark. He received his education in the Christmatic
Institute in his native town, and after leaving school studied telegraphy.
He was a telegraph operator for several years. In March, 1875, he entered
the employ of H. K. & F. B. Thurber & Co. as bill clerk, and was steadily
advanced until on February 1, 1884, he became junior partner of the firm
of Thurber, Whyland & Co. He was a Director when the company was
incorporated and continued as such until the receivers were appointed.
He represented the receivers until the final accounting was made, and then
became Assistant Secretary of the New East River Bridge Company. He
is at present one of the Sinking Fund Commissioners of the City of Bayonne.
Mr. Bouton is a public spirited citizen and highly respected by all who know him. He is a member of Bayonne Lodge, No. 99, F. and A. M., of Bayonne Lodge, No. 434, B. P. O. of Elks, of Bayonne Lodge, No. 695, Royal Arcanum, of the Order of Chosen Friends, of the Independent Order of Foresters, of the Newark Bay Boat Club, and of the Exempt Firemen's Association. He was married, December 29, 1874, to Mary Louise Webb. They have ten children, all of whom are living.
