EMIL SAHNER

EMIL SAHNER, of the firm of Sahner & Hauenstein, proprietors of the
Union Brewing Company of the Town of Union, is the son of Fritz and
Catherine Sahner and a grandson of Carl Sahner, and was born in Durkheim,
Rheinfalz, Germany, in February, 1853.
He received his education in the Fatherland and began active life as a salesman in a large wholesale house in Landau, Rheinfalz, afterward becoming a clerk in a sugar refinery in Croeinfort, Bavaria. At the age of twenty he came to America and started as a salesman in a glassware house in New York City. Subsequently he accepted a position as bookkeeper for the A. Kraemer Brewing Company, of Guttenberg, N. J., and remained there until 1888, when he became bookkeeper for the Union Brewing, Company. of the Town of Union. Hudson County. In 1893 he was made collector for that concern. In September, 1897, he formed a partnership with Louis C. Hauenstein, Jr., and under the firm name of Sahner & Hauenstein purchased the entire business, which they still conduct. The Union Brewery, under their able and energetic management, has become one of the largest enterprises of the kind in Hudson County. Mr. Sahner is a public spirited, progressive, and patriotic citizen, a liberal supporter of every movement designed to advance the general welfare, and a member of the Royal Arcanum and the Ancient Order of United Workmen. He married Miss Louisa Fehr, and resides in the Town of Union.
