HERBERT CLARK GILSON was born February 18, 1878, in Jersey City, N. J., where he still resides. He is the son of Thomas Q. Gilson and Elizabeth Le Con Clark, and a descendant of sturdy English ancestors. His father was senior member of the firm of Gilson, Collins & Co., dealers in lumber and timber on Communipaw Avenue, Jersey City, and died March 27, 1895.

Mr. Gilson was educated at Hasbrouck Institute and at the New York Law School. He was admitted to the bar of New Jersey as an attorney on the 27th of February, 1899, and since then has practiced his profession in Jersey City with marked success. He is a member of Bergen Lodge. No. 47, F. and A. M., of Jersey City, and in every capacity has gained the confidence and respect of all who know him.
