WILLIAM WRAY

WILLIAM WRAY is the son of Ezekiel B. Wray, who was born near
the Giant's Causeway, in the North of Ireland, and who was of English
descent. Ezekiel was the son of a Captain in the English Army. He came
to America when eleven years of age and settled in Canada, whence he subsequently
removed to Albany, N. Y. He was a baker, and upon coming
to New York opened a grocery store. He married Mary Ann Forbes, also
a native of Ireland. William Wray was born in Albany, N. Y., July 12, 1829, and removed to New York City with his parents in 1831. He was educated in Public Schools Nos. 4 and 8, of New York City, and afterward, when but fifteen years of age, was apprenticed to the jewelry trade. On August 11, 1853, he entered the Nassau Bank of New York, with which he has ever since been associated, and where he has been the manager of the safe deposit vaults since August 5, 1882. He settled in Closter, Bergen County, N. J., in 1872, and still resides there. While in New York City he was a member of the Volunteer Fire Department, joining Washington Hose Company November 12, 1850. He was married, May 12, 1857, to Amelia Norris, daughter of Daniel W. Norris, of New York City. They have had seven children: Amelia (deceased), Lottie E., Katherine E., William N., Jane Amelia, Walter G., and Warren N.
