ARTHUR J. STEVER

ARTHUR J. STEVER, of Hillsdale, was born in New York City on the ad
of January, 1853. He is the son of Erastus Stever and Catharine A. Van
Loon and a grandson of Jeremiah Stever. His ancestors came to this country
from Germany. Mr. Stever was educated in Brooklyn, N. V., at the
Brooklyn Collegiate and Polytechnic Institute. He left school at the age
of eighteen and studied architecture in the office of Vaux & Withers, of
New York. Since then he has been actively and successfully engaged in
practice as an architect. He has represented Hillsdale Township on the Board of Chosen Freeholders and is a member of the Westwood Reformed Church and President of the Hillsdale Manor Improvement Company. As a resident of Hillsdale he has taken an active part in town affairs, and is highly esteemed for those qualities which stamp the public spirited, progressive, and patriotic citizen. He married Dora L. Whitman, daughter of Hon. Jarvis Whitman and Dorothy A. Hopkins, and has three children: Arthur J., Ralph H., and Dora A.
