GEORGE E. TOOKER, of Demarest, Bergen County, was born in Buffalo, N. Y., June 22, 1858. He is the son of William A. Tooker and Sarah J. Blackburn and a grandson of William A. Tooker, Sr. His ancestors came to this country from England and for years have been prominent in business and professional affairs.

Mr. Tooker was educated in Brooklyn, N. Y. He left school at the age of twelve and became a clerk in a tea store, where he remained one and a half years. He then entered a dry goods store and continued as a clerk for five years, when he engaged in the printing business. After working in that capacity for four years he entered a millinery house, remaining eleven years, when he associated himself with Henry Seibert & Brother, lithographers, 411 Pearl Street, New York, with whom he still continues. He has served as Commissioner of Appeals of Huntington Township and a three-year term as Town Committeeman, and in both business and public capacities has displayed marked ability, sound judgment, and great enterprise. He is a member of the Knights of Honor, the Masonic fraternity, the Knights of Pythias, the Uniformed Rank of the Knights of Pythias, and the Baptist Church of Demarest, where he resides. He is the second Chief of the Demarest Fire Department. Mr. Tooker married Mary Lowenhaupt and has one son, George.
