GEORGE M. ECKERT

GEORGE M. ECKERT, of Arlington, was born in the Eighth Ward of
New York City on the 8th of October, 1869. He is the son of David R.
Eckert and Dellyetta McKellop and a grandson of Martin Eckert. The
Eckerts came originally from Holland and first settled on Manhattan
Island, whence they removed to the vicinity of Kingston, where Martin
Eckert still lives, his home being at Ulster Park. He has always followed
agricultural pursuits. The family have been prominent and influential in
both public and business affairs, and from the first have taken an active
part in all worthy objects. Mr. Eckert was educated in the public schools of New York City and at the New York College. Since leaving the latter institution he has been associated with the well known dry goods house of Lord & Taylor, of New York, rising to the position of assistant manager of the carpet department, which he now holds. In public affairs he has held for several years a prominent place, taking an active part in town affairs, and filling every position with acknowledged ability. He was elected a member of the Board of Aldermen in the spring of 1899, and is a member and Assistant Foreman of Hook and Ladder Company No. 1, of the Kearny Volunteer Fire Department. He is a member of the Episcopal Church. He married Mary L. Crissy and has one daughter, Alice Eckert.
