ERNST BEHR

ERNST BEHR, a well known citizen of the Town of Union, Hudson
County, was born in Northern Germany on the 29th of May, 1864. His
parents, William and Hermina (Rehmer) Behr, were respected and esteemed
for those sturdy qualities which distinguish the German race.
Mr. Behr was educated in the public or national schools of the Fatherland. He also served a short time in the German Army. In 1882 he came to the United States and settled in Brooklyn, N. Y., where he was engaged in the grocery business for two years. In 1884 he removed to New York City and established himself in the liquor business, which he successfully conducted until 1891, when he came to the Town of Union, Hudson County. N. J. Here he has since resided, being engaged in the liquor trade on the corner of Bergenline Avenue and Lewis Street. Mr. Behr is an active member of the Democratic party, a patriotic citizen, and a liberal supporter of every worthy movement. He married Barbara Kobbeck.
