Hoboken, NJ’s Hudson Theatre Ensemble will be holding auditions for “The Shadow Box” by Michael Cristofer, Tony-Award & Pulitzer-Prize winner about 3 diverse families coping with approaching death of close family members. NON-EQUITY, NOT PAID. AUDITIONS BY APPOINTMENT ONLY late September, early October: Please send head shots &/or resumes to florence@fpls.com or Florence Pape, Dir. of Development, Hudson Theatre Ensemble, 216 13th St. Hoboken, NJ 07030. If you do not have head shot, then send resume only. Rehearsal Schedule: Rehearsals begin 10/14 at 7:15 PM. Tuesdays through Fridays 7:15 PM to 10:30 PM (actors will be individually scheduled according to scenes). Performances: Preview: 12/4; Show runs: 12/ 5 –12/7 (Fri Sat at 8, Sun at 7:30; 12/12 -12/ 14th (Same times). . Director: Jim Boerlin’s directing credits include (in NYC) Pvt Wars, Chamber Music, Answers, Conversations in Black and White, The Pigeon Sisters, The Dumb Waiter, The Trysting Place, A Good Time for a Change, and most recently, the world premiere of David Loughlin's Lady Mindy’s. For regional theatres he has directed Arsenic and Old Lace (inaugural season Duke Theatre Company), On the Verge, Steel Magnolias, Gertrude Stein and a Companion, Funny Girl, and Once Upon a Mattress. He was a founding member of Pittsburgh Metro Theatre, an actor managed company where he directed the world premiere of The Columbia Encyclopedia Presents Mary Stuart, Queen of Scotland which was brought back by popular demand back five out of eight seasons. He was Executive Director for Beatrice Straight's Michael Chekhov Studio in NYC. Cast Breakdown STEVE--14-16 years old; Joe's son; an eager-beaver; plays guitar; open to everything; MAGGIE--mid 40's-50's; Joe's wife; in denial to her husband's terminal disease; nervous; very anxious about her trip to see her husband; refuses to talk about death; BRIAN--35-40's; simple; direct; mind and body balanced like an athlete; vulnerable; plucky; ironic/keen sense of humor used to cover his pain; MARK--mid-20's; Brian's lover; passionately intelligent; sexually attractive; a caretaker/protector; uptight; cynical; bitter; smoldering intensity; BEVERLY--35-40's; extremely attractive woman; Brian's ex-wife; a drinker; exuberant; loves too freely; verbalizes irrepressibly; FELICITY--70's; tough veneer; lives in the past and for the future; drifts in and out of the present; ornery, iron-willed; half-senile; agitated; AGNES--40's; Felicity's daughter; very neat; very tense; unsure of self; always tries to do the right thing; the unloved daughter; quietly desperate for her mother's love;
