REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS- Curators and Artists sought for 175,000 sq/ft exhibition space. The City of Jersey City seeks artists and curators for an exhibition of large scale sculpture, painting, and installation art planned for the 14th annual Jersey City Artist Studio Tour. The exhibition will take place at the Jersey City Armory, located at 678 Montgomery Street. Due to the unusually large exhibition space available, we are seeking proposals both from individual artists and from curators of group exhibitions who would like to participate in the 2004 Jersey City Artist Studio Tour, scheduled for the weekend of October 2 and 3. Last year’s tour was profiled in the NY Times and attracted over 10,000 visitors from the NY/NJ area. The Armory space features 175,000 sq/ft of usable floor space and loading ramps with drive in access. The interior of the three story tall structure is completely open and unobstructed vertically - of particular interest to sculptors, installation artists, and curators is the ceiling level metal catwalk which provides both access and support for hanging light-weight large or small scale artwork. The city will provide shuttle bus service to and from the Armory for visitors during the Artist Studio Tour. Music and performance events are scheduled to take place at the Armory throughout the Tour weekend. Delivery and set up is arranged for September 30 and October 1, with breakdown and pickup scheduled for October 4. For more information about the Armory exhibition and/or the 2004 Jersey City Artist Studio Tour contact: Greg Brickey, Division of Cultural Affairs, Room 316, City Hall, 280 Grove Street, Jersey City, NJ, 07302.
