Don't Drive to Downtown Jersey City!
On street parking is very difficult to find. Commuter parking is basically prohibited in all residential areas. Every spot without a meter is either residential, permit or prohibited parking. If you park in any of these places, upon returning, you will almost certainly discover your vehicle ticketed and booted. Don't ruin your trip!
There are a number of pay parking lots.
The PATH subway line stops at Grove Street and at Pavonia/Newport. Most Downtown Jersey City destinations are within walking distance destinations. In any case, taxis and local buses serve the area well.
If you must drive to the area, you're much better off parking at one of these Hudson-Bergen Light Rail Park-Ride lots:
