MORRIS COUNTY COURTHOUSE, Washington St. between Court St. and Western Ave., is an early 19th century building designed by architects Carter and Lindsey. The two-story structure of brick and sandstone is surmounted by a colonnaded and louvered belfry topped with a golden dome and weathervane. Four simulated Ionic columns divide the arched windows of the second story; in the pediment is a figure of justice. The entrance, not unlike that of a private home, has a one-story, portico with a pair of Ionic colonnettes on both sides. The courthouse is attractively painted in cream and white.
