The UNIVERSITY CHAPEL, erected 1928, is of Gothic design. It is austere, reserved, and somewhat "cathedralesque" in its delicacy. Into the 72-foot-high arched nave and transept a deep blue light filters through stained glass windows. Seats for 2,000 persons make this one of the three largest college chapels in the world ; the others are the University of Chicago chapel and the chapel of King's College, Cambridge University, England. On the heads of architects Cram and Ferguson have been poured both the vindictiveness of outraged stylists and the high praise of appreciative architectural authorities in a battle that began when the chapel was erected and has been vigorously continued.
