At 18 miles is the junction with a macadam road.
Left on this road to JOCKEY HOLLOW, part of Morristown National Historical
Park, 2.7 m. (see MORRISTOWN).
At 18.5 m. (L) is BURNHAM PARK, where rolling green acres of woodland and meadows encircle the Morristown Municipal Swimming Pool.
The site was occupied during the Revolution by Gen. Henry Knox and
the artillery brigade.
West of Morristown the countryside fulfills the hint of New England
that characterizes this part of New Jersey. Green, maize, and rust-colored
fields fit into the rolling hills like pieces of a mosaic; neat wood fences
separate the farm lands.
Hidden from the road by towering shade trees at 20.4 miles is ST. MARY'S
MONASTERY (L), a Benedictine institution. AURORA INSTITUTE, a sanatorium, is high on the hill at 21.2 miles (L).
An overgrowth of tall trees and thickets at 23.5 miles (L) hides from the
road the ESTATE OF GEORGE WASHINGTON (private), coffee manufacturer.
The PRIVATE Zoo of the contemporary George Washington, enclosed
in a wire fence adjoining the highway, occupies sloping meadow land
(L) at 23.8 miles.
