CROTON, 5.3 miles (510 alt., l00 pop.), consists of an old barn, a general store, and half a dozen houses at the junction with a country road.
BAPTISTOWN, 9.6 miles (500 alt., 75 pop.), was so named because of
two Baptist churches formed here for the early settlers. The blacksmith
shop, drab frame houses, and a general store mark it as a meeting place
for the farmers of the surrounding area.
From the crests of hills between Baptistown and Frenchtown wide panoramas of planted fields, blotched with the darker green of trees, spread
out to the Sourland Mts. (east) and the hazy rises of the Pocono Mts.
across the Delaware.
At 11.2 miles the road begins a sharp descent to the river.
