BROWNTOWN, 19.6 miles (70 alt.), is merely a few scattered houses.
At 23 miles the highway crosses LAKE LEFFERTS, one of the twin lakes
constructed as a community enterprise by the town of Matawan, which
lies between them. Both bodies of water have been stocked with black
bass and other fish.
At MATAWAN, 23.7 mils (60 alt., 2,246 pop.) (see Tour 18), State
S28 forms a junction with US 9 (see Tour 18).
