At 3 miles is (L) the FIELD HOMESTEAD (private), standing on a low knoll overlooking the Raritan. It is a low and rambling Colonial house built in 1743 by a grandson of the John Field who founded an extensive domain here in 1695. A colony of Negroes lives in the quarters once used by Negro slaves. East of the house 100 yards is an ancient INDIAN BURIAL GROUND, where hundreds of Indian weapons and utensils have been found.
