At 7.3 miles, on a high knoll (L), is the white-painted MERCER HOUSE
(private). Erected about 1744 by Dr. William Mercer, brother of the Revolutionary General, it is basically of straight Colonial design, but has been
so altered and enlarged from time to time that its original appearance is
now all but lost under a festooning of porches and additions.
