At 1.5 miles on a gentle slope is (L) the 640-foot orange and white transmitting tower of RADIO STATION WJZ (open to groups of not more than six persons), marked at night by 12 red lights. The triangular, open steel frame rests on a porcelain insulator 24 inches in diameter. Energized, the tower itself serves as a radiator of electric waves. Its ground system of 95,000 feet of 1-inch copper ribbon spreads over 20 acres.
