OCEAN CITY, 3.1 miles (5 alt., 5,525 pop.), is a bone-dry city by design of its founder. Since 1879 the community has catered to families from many States who return year after year. Situated on the northern end of one of the New Jersey shore islands, it has the double advantage of quiet inland waters and the ocean. Two inlets on the harbor side are the centers of beautiful residential sections. In the bay, close to the city, tradition says, is the sunken hulk of a Spanish galleon holding a treasure from the mines of Peru. Attempts to find the wreck have been futile.
