At 57.5 miles is (L) the STATE GAME FARM (open by permission of warden). On this 550-acre tract about 15,000 pheasants are reared annually and distributed as game. A 100-acre breeding pond for wild ducks, adjacent to Barnegat Bay, is being built. The WARDEN'S HOME, of early American design, dates from 1784. A finely turned mahogany balustrade, imported from England, leads to the upper floor. The late George J. Gould once offered to pay $700 for the balustrade and supply a replica. The State declined his offer.
