GIBBSTOWN, 69.4 miles (10 alt., 208 pop.), is mostly a double row of
frame houses, lacking the distinction of either Colonial or modern construction. Here live many of the workmen employed in one of the largest
Du Pont high explosive plants, the town's main industry.
Du Pont pay envelopes are, in fact, the most important single source of
income for residents of the entire section between Paulsboro and Pennsville. Although Wilmington is the capital of this industrial dynasty, operations have been extended across the Delaware River to an extent that
affects the life of every town and hamlet in the river section. Many Pennsylvanians come by boat to work in the New Jersey factories making war
maerials, explosives, paints, dyes, and other Du Pont products.
At 73.1 miles is the junction (L) with US 322 (see Tour 25). US 130
and US 322 are united for 0.7 miles.
