WEST MILFORD, 19.8 miles. (700 alt., 350 pop.), is a tiny village on
the east shore of PINE CLIFF LAKE. An old agricultural center once
known as New Milford, it has developed as a small summer resort. Two
churches set the tone of the community. One, the FULL GOSPEL CHURCH
L), at the northern end of town, is housed in a low green bungalow
very much like the homes along the lake front. The other is the WEST
MILFORD PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH (L), farther south, a handsome white
came structure with stone steps and a broad double door. It was built in
1807, rebuilt 1825. A sign outside announces: "This Church is open all
day, every day, for Rest, Private worship or shelter from the Storm." The
white frame BOROUGH HALL (R), built late in the nineteenth century on
early American lines, was formerly a Methodist church.
Bear R. at 20.1 miles.
