Instead of flying off to exotic fact finding tours do your job rebuild Jersey City. Why would Jaime go to Viet Nam does Jersey City have any econmic relationship or is he just expanding his portfolio to foreign affairs. Either way why should his view be valid compared to the US State Departments view. Considering all the work that needs to be done in Jersey City what purpose does his input on Viet Nam add. Who really cares what a Communist nation does other than in a military sense. We the people of Jersey City have not empowered this person with a charge to visit Viet Nam and make comments about it status. Who does he work for Jersey City or Hanoi? : Vietnam News Briefs : August 18, 2003 : POLITICS & LAW: VISITING JERSEY CITY DEPUTY MAYOR PROTESTS US HOUSE RIGHTS BILL : The Deputy Mayor of Jersey City in the US, Jaime Vasquez, said he has seen "a reality totally different from what the US thinks about Vietnam" during his ongoing visit to the country. : A veteran of the Vietnam War, he said that upon his return to the US he would immediately meet with Chris Smith, author of the Vietnam Human Rights Bill, who is also from New Jersey State, to convince him to abandon the bill, which is expected to be presented to a hearing before the External Affairs Committee of the US House of Representatives in either September or early October. Expressing his deep impressions after visiting the Vietnamese children of soldiers infected with Orange Agent at the Vietnam Friendship Village, Mr Vasquez said "we battered Vietnam, but have done nothing to reconstruct the country". : Mr Vasquez said he witnessed thousands of people holding a ceremony at the Hanoi Church, which, he said, contradicts the view of Mr Smith that there is "no religion in Vietnam." : "The US Government should assist Vietnam instead of forcing it to follow what it wants", said the deputy mayor, citing the establishment of tens of thousands of new businesses as evidence that Vietnam is on the right track. : Vietnam should benefit the same trade relations with the US as China now has, he said, adding that it being a communist country should not be a reason for rejection in the US. : This is the second visit by Mr Vasquez to Vietnam, and is aimed at finding out the truth about the country.
