Cunningham ally testifies as trial continues in Hudson election fraud case By STEVE KORNACKI JERSEY CITY, September 2 - A key ally of Jersey City Mayor Glenn Cunningham spent most of the day on the witness stand as the legal challenge to the 31st Legislative District's June primary results continued in Judge Arthur N. D'Italia's Jersey City courtroom today.
Bobby Jackson, a longtime Jersey City Democratic activist and a Cunningham adviser, was grilled by Stephen J. Edelstein, an attorney for the Hudson County Democratic Organization, over what role Jackson's political action committee -- the Reform Democratic Committee of Jersey City -- played in the 31st District's legislative elections.
Jackson was the second witness called by Edelstein since the trial opened last week. The case was brought by the HCDO and its losing candidates in the 31st District -- state Senate candidate L. Harvey Smith and Assembly incumbents Joseph V. Doria (D-Bayonne) and Elba Perez Cinciarelli (D-Jersey City) -- and seeks to throw out the June primary results because of voting irregularities and excessive spending by Cunningham's team.
