I agree that Mayor Cunningham is in a boxing match, but I don't think that he is "out for the count." Like in Rocky, all Glenn has to do is to "go the distance." If he puts in a good showing in Jersey City come election day for Hartnett and Martinez, then Glenn has beat expectations and probably has another shot at running for Mayor. Even though Glenn can keep from losing, now I don't see what it is that he can win. At first everybody that I bumped into in Jersey City was rooting for the Mayor over Congressman Bob. Menendez has opened a new deck of cards. Now the question is no longer Jersey City versus North Hudson, but whether Jersey City is happy with Glenn as mayor. I can't see why, but Glenn has jumped into a midterm election. The best that he can hope for seems to be to come out even. If Glenn can't pull for his guys in Jersey City, we've got a lame duck mayor. : After Congressman Menendez is finished with him, maybe, Glenn can go into pro-wrestling. : A movie could be done about the whole thing: REQUIEM FOR A POLITICIAN. At the end, maybe there could be a cameo appearance by Muhammad Ali. Cunningham will be hooping and hollering all the while wearing an Indian Chief set of feathers. The deep thinkers will be wondering What Does It Mean. : : Dave Friedland was a scuba diving instructor, Janiszewski is selling ski equipment, what sport will the current caste of characters take up upon "retirement?" |
