Gerry McCann and two other independent candidates battling against Freeholder Radames "Ray" Velazquez for the Fourth District Freeholder seat, lost another round in court yesterday. In an earlier suit, they attempted to have the freeholder race under a black heavy line under the county race for County Executive and the legislative seats. A judge ruled that Velazquez was entitled to the Democratic freeholder nomination, running on the Democratic Column "A" ticket. Carl Czaplicki is the Republican nominee on Column "B." In yesterday’s ruling, McCann failed to have the independents placed on Columns C, D, and E. The judge ruled that rows C and D belonged to the Green Party and Herb Shaw ticket respectively. So the independents were placed on Columns E, F and G. They drew for position yesterday and Juanita Lopez, Anthony Cruz and Gerry McCann drew columns E, F and G respectively. It means that McCann is on Column G, which in this case means "Goner." Now only is his ballot position working against him, but a recent Hudson County Democratic Organization poll reveals that almost 70% of those polled say they will not vote for a convicted felon, whether his crimes pertained to his office or not. That’s not surprising in the current atmosphere in Hudson County.
