Urban TIMES News April 12 – 18, 2002 By Rev. Edward A. Allen Firstly, we need to change the representative, because he doesn’t really know or work hard enough for the entire district. Jersey City, Bayonne a well as, Union County are poorly represented by the gentleman from Newark. I know the 10th congressional district very well. I have served the people of Jersey City and Bayonne; I’ve built programs for Youth and Seniors in Union County across three decades and I have more than four decades of leadership amongst the people of Newark, building child shelters, programs to motivate youth and develop second chance opportunities for those returning to the workforce and home from prison. Secondly, we need to change the decision-maker in Congress, because I’m convinced Mr. Payne has lost touch with the changing needs of the people of the 10th Congressional District. Imagine voting against Children’s Prayer in school, as Mr. Payne did in the House Bill H CONRES 239, or voting against HR 4577, which supply 71% of Medicare; Medicaid, and SSI monies- Mr. Payne voted No to 8.4 billion in Pell Grants for Americans to receive a Higher Education. NO to 1.8 billion to the Teacher Empowerment Act. Clearly, schools across the 10th Congressional District need to help teachers, help children. We need to change the Congressional Representative, because he hasn’t worked hard enough to restore ChildCare monies to the State Block Grant for 2002/2003. I object to the many family issues for which Mr. Payne voted against the family and family values. Mr. Payne voted No to HR 3073 a bill to promote responsible fatherhood by creating Education, Economic and Employment Opportunities and worst and Mr. Payne opposed Churches being involved in the funding opportunities to establish such programs. Yes, Mr. Payne voted against HR4274 to provide parents notice of their Child’s use of Family Planning Clinic services. The 10th Congressional District needs to change the representative for seniors. Mr. Payne voted, No to Bill HR4680 Rx2000 act, a new voluntary prescription drug coverage for Medicate beneficiaries through subsidized to private plans. He voted No to HR10, which would raise tile opportunities for personal pension investment. All of these things help seniors. Thirdly, I’m seeking the 10th congressional seat to include those who have been left out. I want to include Jersey City, Bayonne, Rahway, Linden and other small towns, that have been sacrificed for Mr. Payne’ Newark’ Interest.
