Gannett's McClure wins prestigious award "Panels of highly respected judges reviewed hundreds of entries before determining which outstanding women in print, broadcast and online media should be given this prestigious award," the organization said in announcing the winners. McClure was singled out for her investigative reporting of stories surrounding McGreevey's controversial aide, Golan Cipel, the early release from prison of a reputed mobster, Angelo Prisco, and a trip to Puerto Rico paid for by a union under federal investigation. "The three stories reflect a tremendous amount of excellent reporting skills. The reporter needed to cultivate important sources in the justice and political communities and piece together intriguing stories detailing the use of political muscle. The reporter presents a convincing picture of connection among the players in each story and how alleged improprieties at the top levels of government in New Jersey came to pass. The stories illuminate political favors and misdeeds that fall trough the cracks much of the time," the judges said of McClure's stories. "We're proud of Sandy's work on these stories and the other outstanding projects she has done for Gannett New Jersey newspapers," said Bob Ingle, bureau chief for Gannett in Trenton. "The readers of our seven dailies in this state and residents of New Jersey in general are the better for her conscientious efforts in journalism. She's one of the best, and deserving of the recognition from her peers."
