Shortly after the Democrats took control of the Assembly, Governor McGreevey decided to derail Assemblyman Joseph Doria’s opportunity to become Assembly speaker by supporting previously little-known Sires. South Jersey Democrat boss George Norcross and Camden Assemblyman Joe Roberts led the fight against Doria. Elise DiNardo asked, “How can Sires be expected to fight for the taxpayers of the 33rd District when he owes his rise to Speaker to Camden County leaders?” “Every time we turn around the state is sending money to Camden,” DiNardo continued. “ Norcross and Roberts hand-picked Sires. Now when they put their hand out for Camden, Sires will be there with them. We need leadership in this district, not someone beholden to Camden’s political bosses.” Jose Munoz added, “Norcross and Roberts fought for Sires to become Speaker. Now when they put their hand out for Camden, Sires will be there with them. If Sires remains in the Assembly he will simply become Camden‘s third Assemblyman.” # # #
