For Immediate Release For additional information contact: Weehawken, NJ (October 27, 2003) - Republican Assembly candidates Elise DiNardo and Jose Munoz continue to question Sires loyalty to the taxpayers of the 33rd Legislative District. According to a recent news report from Gannett State Bureau, “Pay-to- play reforms the governor has touted lie stuck on a shelf, held there by McGreevey’s hand-picked Assembly Speaker Albio Sires, government watchdog Common Cause says.” Coincidentally the Assembly Speaker has, throughout his political career, accepted campaign contributions from Joseph Barry, who has been indicted on a laundry list of charges and Gerard Lisa who has pled guilty to charges stemming from the recent Hudson County political scandal that has, so far, resulted in the conviction of one elected official. “The time for ethics reform could never be more right,” Assembly Assembly candidate Jose Munoz said, “Considering Mr. Sires’ ties to these unsavory characters he should tell the taxpayers of this district exactly what his connection is with these characters. The people deserve to know why the Assembly Speaker refused to post a bill against pay-to-play that had bipartisan support.” DiNardo added, “A bill, with bipartisan support, passed the state Senate that would end pay-to-play. Sires claimed he did not post that bill because it did not include local governments. A later bill that included local governments also passed the state Senate and Sires never posted that bill. Mr. Sires needs to explain to the people of this district why he has done nothing to reform ethics in this state.” # # #
