An Albatross’ll Beat an Anchor Any Day In the race to election day shore, it was supposed to be that the Dems’d get slowed down by the McGreevey albatross. Turns out, to whatever extent that was true, in the end it didn’t matter, for the Republicans wound up stuck in the mud by the Bennett anchor. This might even turn out to be a worst first of the ship going down with the captain. And that’s just an in particular. Considering the in general, rather little vim and vigor went into the job of making a case against the Gov. Plus, in their campaign dinghy, the NJ Republicans had only that one oar. No State-wide message of Republican ideals ever made it to deck. So the Republican effort was doomed at the dock to meander about in circles. And even that was only managed marginally. The many McGreevey flagrant failures needed to be descried by one and all as a flapping Jolly Roger on the horizon. Simply, the Republicans failed to show that. But, even if the maneuver was a success, the spyglass still had to show the Democrat legislators as the crew of the Pirate’s ship. Basically, that wasn’t even attempted. People have criticized Hudson County Republican Chairman Jose Arango. I'd say that he has a lot to be proud of this morning. With no resources (and after endorsing her Democratic opponent), Carmen Mendiola still managed over 16% of the vote. Rafael Fraguela did a good job in creating a presence, winning almost 20%. (I think that Fraguela could have done even better. But, he was too much of a gentleman to get into a wrestling match in the gutter with Bernard Kenny.) Out-manned and out-gunned, the Hudson County Republicans were defeated. That's nothing to be ashamed of. The Republican organizations in the many districts that had a real chance of winning, but threw it away, those Chairs deserve disgrace.
