The Urban Times News Excerpted from Inside County Lines by Jay Stevens from UTN coming edition…
A good friend of ours operates a popular website, getnj.com with a Hudson County Politics message board. We have posted some articles there from time to time, and your author has posted this column there on occasion. Shortly after we started doing this, he was labeled a racist as was his message board. Our friend the website editor, is Caucasian, Eastern European, Slavic, high cheekbone variety, one Anthony Olszewski by name.
You do not get much whiter specimens. You would think he was spewing forth KKK propaganda on his website. Nothing of the kind had happened. He had merely allowed an African-American publication to post some articles and columns on his website. He was formerly aligned with and even worked for the Schundler administration. Our Mr. Olszewski is an erudite man and the accusations of racism leveled against him from out of left field rang a bell and the little light bulb went on. Our friend the web site editor went digging through the archives and found what he was looking for: A recording of a speech given long ago by Malcolm X, predicting the phenomenon of Uncle Harvey, and explaining how Jersey City’s first African-American Mayor, Glenn Cunningham, comes to be labeled a racist by the political opposition and the press they control. It is truly eye opening to listen to Malcolm X’s remarks given forty years ago. If you did not know, you would easily believe it was today, right now that these remarks were said and they could easily refer to what is going on with Cunningham and his war with the political machine here in Hudson County. You can hear the audio of Malcolm’s remarks by going to the website, and clicking on the Link.
