Urban Times News
By Geraldine R. Clark

Atlantic City, NJ -The New Jersey State League of Municipalities (NJSLOM) held their 88th Annual Conference in Atlantic City and not all the highlights of the conference were the informative League Sessions and the numerous receptions. On Tuesday night, November 18th. 2003, if you were at Bally's Hotel & Casino on the 6th. floor, you were probably wondering what that loud commotion was all about Well, all noise wasn't coming from just the receptions. Two Guttenberg council members, who were yelling at one of their constituents, were the culprits making some of that noise. Newly elected Hudson County Clerk Javier Inclan and Guttenberg Councilwoman Jennifer Credidio were trying to convey to me (as loud as they could) why they wouldn't give a contract to my former
employer, John Bruno, CEO/Founder of The Bruno Group, a grants consulting an public relations firm located inClifton.

It seems that Mr. Inclan, Ms. Credidio and their associates do not want to have anything to do with anyone that allows their employees to associate with the Urban Times New because that newspaper has been saying negative things about Mr. Inclan and his associates.

Mr., Inclan feels that it would be ludicrous on his part to give The Bruno Group a contract since Mr. Bruno has a person on staff whose name appears in the masthead of the Urban Times News. As the newly elected Hudson County Clerk, he feels that the Urban Times News should mention that he is the first Hispanic and youngest person ever elected to this position, instead of the negative things they are currently writing about him.

I tried to explain to Mr. Inclan and Ms. Credidio that I had nothing to do with the negative stories being printed about him and her associates. However, the newly elected Hudson County Clerk and the Guttenberg councilwoman weren't hearing me. Instead they keep repeating that he was the first Hispanic and youngest person ever elected as the Hudson County Clerk and that is what
should be printed about him. No matter how many times I told them that I had nothing to do with those stories and I was no longer an employee of The Bruno Group, they just kept yelling louder and louder.

Several times Ms. Credidio walked away, but she kept coming back, yelling at me that there was no way that she would give a contract to anyone who allowed their employees to have their name on the masthead of the newspaper that was saying negative things about her associates. If slanderous comments were being printed about them, I suggested they contact their lawyers. Ms. Credidio stated that nothing negative was printed about her, just her associates and that was her reason for not wanting to do business with The Bruno Group.

During this confrontation, I asked them why they didn't come directly to me and ask me about these negative stories being printed about them, especially since I lived in Guttenberg. They're response was "why should they?" They didn't want to have anything to do with anyone affiliated with the Urban Times News. Instead they told my former employer to have me write a letter to Bobby
Jackson, the Publisher of the Urban Times News and demand that my name be removed from their masthead. I asked them if doing that wouldhelp my former employer get a contract with them. They said no it wouldn't. So of course I wanted to know if they were not going to give him a contract why did they want my name removed from the masthead.

Unfortunately, that just infu-riated them even more, that Kay LiCausi, former aide of Congressman Robert Menendez tried to get Inclan, the first Hispanic and youngest person elected as the Hudson County Clerk, to stop yelling and walk away from
the conversation, but he rebuffed her.

Mr. Inclan. the first Hispanic and youngest person elected as the Hudson County Clerk, was yelling at me so loud that a Bally's security guard came over to us and asked what was the matter, It was then that Mr. Inclan, the first Hispanic and youngest person elected as the Hudson County Clerk, stopped yelling at me.

As I previously mentioned, I tried several times to find out why Mr.Inland, the first Hispanic and youngest person ever elected as the
Hudson Comity Clerk, felt he had the right to (1) yell at me the way he did and embarrass me in front of my co-workers and friends; (2) demand from Mr. Bruno that I write a letter to Bobby Jackson requesting that my name be removed from the Urban Times News masthead; (3) to demand from me that I remove my name from the Urban Times masthead; and (4) disrespect me.

I'm still waiting for the response. After the security guard came over to us, Mr. Inclan, the first Hispanic and youngest person ever
elected as the Hudson County Clerk and Ms. Credidio walked away from me without apologizing to me for their immature behavior.

This incident has me wondering how they react at other times when people do or say things that don't agree with their ideas and
beliefs. Does Mr. Inclan, the first Hispanic and youngest person ever elected as the Hudson County Clerk and Ms. Credidio, one of the youngest women elected to the Guttenberg council act so immature ever time something happens that they do not like?

Thank God, I'm no longer a resident of Guttenberg because they would probably have my former landlord evict me from my apartment because they don't want someone whose name appears in the masthead of the Urban Times News living in their town.

And, Javier and Jennifer, just for the record, I mentioned your behavior to a few of your associates and they were not pleased with your actions, so don't be surprised if you get a "time out" and are sent packing because you both have become a liability to your associates.

If you decide that you want to act in a professional manner befitting the positions of the Hudson County Clerk and a Guttenberg council-person, you can send me a letter of apology to the Urban Times News. The address is just above my name in the masthead.
