Another person noticeably absent from Thursday's celebration was Joan Arango, who served as deputy county clerk for 10 years of the tenure of Hudson County Clerk Janet Haynes, who died in July.

Javier Inclan, who was elected to the clerk's post after serving in that position on an interim basis, said he has tapped former Bayonne Councilwoman-at-large Mary Jane Desmond, who recently worked in the county's Department of Corrections, to serve as his deputy clerk.

"She's done a great job for the county since she's been here," Inclan said. "She's a great manager with great administrative skills."

Arango - wife of Hudson County Republican Party chairman Jose Arango - could not be reached for comment.
