Senator, Meet the General! Cunningham and Manzo Pick Clark for President
TETERBORO - Senator Glenn D. Cunningham, Mayor of Jersey City, and the 31st District legislative slate endorsed presidential hopeful retired General Wesley Clark following a round-table meeting today. Clark, who has rallied in the polls for the democratic nomination for this year's presidential election, has been in contact with Cunningham the last few weeks and sought the new senator as "someone who would be good on our team." Cunningham, along with Assemblyman Lou Manzo celebrate just their second day in state-elected offices by endorsing the career-distinguished Clark. "It is a personal honor to meet General Clark and support his candidacy for president," said Cunningham, who served four years in the United States Marines. "Clark has proven leaderships skills, full grasp of the issues confronting America and unmatched integrity and dedication to this country. "In a period of "orange" alerts and attacks on our country, Clark is someone whose military background of leading thousands would be an asset to America," Cunningham said. "Clark has also shown sensitivity to human issues that confront America, be it unemployment, housing and health care for our seniors and the need for better schools for our children. He is the ideal candidate to lead our country." In 1962 Clark was admitted to the United States Military Academy. During a 38-year career of public service in the United States Army, Clark shined and achieved the rank of four-star general. During his tenure in the service Clark trained soldiers and lead troops in times of war and of peace. While commanding a mechanized infantry company in the jungles of Viet Nam, Clark, who was just 25 years-old, was shot four times. The young captain, despite his injuries, continued to lead his troops who responded by overrunning the enemy. For his bravery Clark was awarded the Silver Star. "General Clark is a real American who is well versed in all issues, including the need for an open and honest government and someone who realizes we need to be sensitive to our environment," Manzo said.//
