Cunningham has been appointed vice chairman of both the Senate Economic Growth Committee and the Senate Labor Committee by Senate President Richard J. Codey. In addition, Senate President Codey selected Senator Cunningham, D-31st District, to be a member of the important Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee which is responsible for scrutinizing the entire State spending plan every year. "I have a lot of respect for the leadership ability of Senator Cunningham and I am confident that he will be a tremendous asset to the Senate committee process," Senator Codey said. "As Mayor of Jersey City and as a representative of Hudson County, Senator Cunningham will find himself in the thick of issues critically important to his constituents, particularly in the areas of budgetary matters, economic growth and labor relations." As a committee vice chair, Senator Cunningham would be responsible for conducting committee meetings in the absence of Senator Raymond Lesniak, Chairman of the Senate Economic Growth Committee, or Senator Stephen M. Sweeney, Chairman of the Senate Labor Committee. "My goal as a State Senator is to go to Trenton and to make sure the 31st District gets its fair share of funding for important projects and economic incentives for long-term growth," Senator Cunningham said. "I am pleased with my appointments by Senator Codey and I look forward to working closely with Senators Sweeney, Lesniak and (Wayne R.) Bryant, (chairman of the Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee)." Senator Cunningham participated in his first Senate committee meeting on Monday, January 26th, when the Senate Labor Committee convened and approved legislation to expand the type of construction proposals that can be covered by project labor agreements. The Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee and the Senate Economic Growth Committee are not scheduled to meet until Feb. 5. Senator Cunningham was sworn in to a four-year term in the Senate on Jan. 13th. #
