: The brother of Assemblyman Lou Manzo of Jersey City is negotiating a plea agreement with federal investigators looking at a insider-trading allegation against a former top aide to Gov. James E. McGreevey, according to three lawyers whose clients have been contacted by investigators. 

: Prosecutors are examining whether, in 1999, Gary Taffet improperly used inside information to buy shares in two companies that soared in value on news they were being acquired by other companies, according to three lawyers whose clients have been contacted by federal investigators.

: Taffet told SEC investigators he bought the stocks on the recommendation of Ronald Manzo, a Hudson County insurance broker. 

: At the time, Taffet ran an insurance consulting firm and was a key political adviser to McGreevey, then the mayor of Woodbridge.
