February 24, 2004 CONTACT: Kelley Heck SENATE MAJORITY LEADER RESPONDS TO BUDGET ADDRESS Kenny says "tough choices and tight wallets" have paid off for NJ residents TRENTON - Senate Majority Leader Bernie Kenny, D-Hudson and member of the Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee, issued the following comments today in response to the Governor's Address on the Fiscal Year 2005 State Budget Proposal: "In this Budget proposal, we're finally seeing the tough choices and tight wallets of the past couple of years pay off. It's evident today that New Jersey residents are going to start reaping some of the benefits of a state government that has been dedicated to responsible fiscal policy. This is a budget of enhancement and a budget of turning points. "Despite a stagnant national economy, New Jersey's economy is improving every day. We've created more new businesses in the past 2 years than the rest of the northeast combined, and tens of thousands of new jobs that have kept our unemployment consistently below that of the national average. These accomplishments are due, in part, to our reform of the corporate business tax two years ago. "I'm looking forward to working with my colleagues over the next several months in ensuring that the final Budget best meets the needs of working families in New Jersey. However, I'd say it looks like we are off to a very good start this time around." ###
