Give me that hard hat!

In what seems to have become an annual tradition, public officials from Hudson County and Jersey City gathered as part of a groundbreaking ceremony for the culinary institute at the community college. Just asJohn Shinnick, the official county photographer, was lining people up for their photograph, Cunningham popped out of a car and grabbed a hard hat out of the hands of Freeholder Maurice Fitzgibbons to get into the shot. Fitzgibbons, however, grabbed the hard hat back and told the mayor to get his own. Apparently there weren't enough to go around and people on the scene overheard Cunningham telling Fitzgibbons, "You should have given your mayor the hat." When Fitzgibbons remained unmoved, Cunningham escalated his claims, saying, "you should have given your senator the hat."

To Cunningham's credit, however, the Jersey City mayor pledged the city's cooperation in helping to get the project complete.

Others told Fitzgibbons to keep the hat.
