Gaughan likely as party leader

Jersey City Councilman William Gaughan is expected to be voted in as the new chairman of the city's Democratic Party on Monday night, dealing another blow to Mayor Glenn D. Cunningham, who saw his preferred candidate for the nomination to run for Hudson County executive defeated handily in Tuesday's primary.

Gaughan, who represents Ward D in the Heights and is aligned with the Hudson County Democratic Organization, will likely replace the current chairman and Cunningham ally Bobby Jackson.
