Patching up political differences?

After the election, sides consider coming together

MAKING PEACE – With a contentious county primary election in the past, the administration and the City Council have discuss reconciling their differences.

Will Mayor Glenn D. Cunningham and the City Council make peace?

This was the natural question after the primary election Tuesday when Bernie Hartnett, the Cunningham-backed candidate for county executive, lost by a landslide to Tom DeGise, who was backed by Rep. Robert Menendez (D-13th Dist.) To most people, the race was more about a power struggle between the mayor and the congressman than it was about the candidates.

But the fight quickly became one man versus an army as the first-term Cunningham faced six-term Menendez, who was supported by the county's other 11 mayors.
